another consideration: check that the shock absorber nuts havent backed out or the bushings hasnt compressed. If it has, then it allows the shock to move up and down causing a knock

I spin the wheel and tire, no noise or movement in the wheel bearings. The Clunk I mentioned would happen at slow speed stopping. like coming to a stop sign

the cup was fine as the ball. I replaced cup and rubber boot while apart,but what I'm asking is why the outer tire wear.

the worn or broken cup will give you a sound when driving over bumps. Maybe like a knocking.

I took the trumpet off and looked at the cup and ball . No visible signs of wear. while the shock and trumpet off , I tried with all my might to move the trailing arm side to side. Nothing loose of any kind.
I will have to pull the trailing arm to inspect the shaft and bronze bush and needle bearings next.
As a side note, what difference would a worn cup make? It would just lower the height.

Possibly the needle roller bearings which support the trailing arm are worn, or have worn the surface of the trailing arm?
That would account for uneven tire wear, and would possibly explain why you can't detect any play with the car raised up and the trailing arm in an uncharacteristic position.

Since you were unable to produce the noise with the car jacked up, perhaps it is something worn that "wedges" itself in place when the car is not on its wheels. I would look at the shock bushings, the nylon cup and ball end of the trumpet, and play in the radius arm and its outer mounting bracket.

I hear a clunk in the right rear. The RR tire outer tread has significant wear. When I jack up the mini and try to find something loose. I can't. I'm pulling and pushing. Nothing. Before I take the trailing arm off, I would like the input from this board. Thanks Jim
