thanks Doug, I'm pretty much a full resto shop with wood and metal abilities.  I might make the landing from wood and make a similar mount  to the generator.  I"m taking one to work to disassemble tomorrow and see what they did.

I get the tubing idea you did, and might go that direction also. I've got some 1 x 2" tubing that I could cut. I think that would be perfect.

Waiting for my rear alternator bracket to arrive. If anyone has a spare rear bracket, pm me please.

Mike, I made a bracket to mount my car's coil in its alternator once I converted from the generator.  I wanted the engine bay to look "largely original" and leaving the coil on the alternator helped keep the look.  I also used a gutted generator control box as a junction box so I didn't have to alter the wiring harness.

I took a piece of 1" square steel tubing and cut it to fit the profile of the alternator case.  Then I welded pieces of 1/16" mild steel strip to the square tubing.  The strips met underneath the alternator where I welded on a couple of thicker pieces of steel  One had a clearance hole, one was tapped for a pinch bolt to hold everything in place.

There was/is no interference between the alternator and the coil.

Sometimes my attempts to post direct links to my online storage space don't work.  However, try the link below for a general sketch of what I made.

re assembling a 1300 lump with alternator.   I put the solonoid on a mounting plate on the left side of engine where sometimes coils are mounted.   Due to the length of new harness I'm trying to decide where to mount the coil.

Has anyone put a band around an altenator like the set up used for a generator?  I"m wondering if it might affect the field or coil.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and today thought maybe I can make a bracket that comes off the alt. rear bracket on the engine.

Not sure if I'll be interfering with the dipstick.  (this just came to me today) Gotta look at the car again.  Meanwhile, I would rather NOT remove a stud nut to hang the coil from the head.

Let's hear some thoughts please.
