Just to experiment - try swapping the left & right bulb to see if anything changes.  I suspect not.

It sounds like there is a short in the circuit for that turn signal light.  Normally, the relay will close the circuit to ground on/off in order to blink the lights.  Since the other lights are working (blinking), it is probably not the relay.  The ground for that lamp should be normally open but I suspect there is a short to ground which is closing the loop (semi-) permanently causing the bulb to stay on....

Do the turn signals operate correctly when the car is running?

The only time I have seen this is when the turn signal is 'on' to the right or left - the light stays on when the car is shut off.

If you start the car, does the turn signal light start blinking?

I thought turn signals were a cost option on BMWs, and one which was rarely taken up.

Ok, funny, I have read all the stuff about using the turn signal stalk to leave the parking light on, this is not the case. Serious help would be appreciated.
