Better yet in what general area is the car located. Some one near by may be willing to take a look. I have driven all over Virginia to survey minis for people. Steve (CTR)

If the car needs front sub frame you may want to be very careful.  Front sub frames do not rust as bad as rear.  It may be good to take a Mini person with you.  There is a lot that can be hidden with body filler, under coating and floors pop riveted in.  I have seen lots of cars that look good 10 feet away that are rust buckets.  What area are you in?

If you're driving that far and are as green as green can be with regard to what is good or bad about a Mini, it may be worth asking someone a bit more knowledgable if they'd entertain a FaceTime or Skype call, if the seller is amenable to it, while you are there to help with the inspection.

Thank you. I'll post pics as soon as I take possession. Maybe it's just me, but it seems rude to me to start posting pics of someone else's car lol. Besides, I reserve the right to walk away if it isn't "as advertised". Even after driving 14 hours to get it.
I appreciate all the information and I'm sure I'll be relying on yee of greater knowledge as my daughter and I work through this build.

FWIW, they didn't make a 1960 Mini Cooper. Minis of that era were simply Mini Minor, Mini 850, or Austin Minis. Unfortunately, most US folks refer to all Minis as Coopers. Although they have the same body the Cooper is the performance version. Think of a 6 cylinder Camaro vs a Z28. Anyway, is this a running driving car or a project that will require complete rebuild? Just curious. Also, as Debbie said, make sure you know exactly what you are buying so that you can order the correct parts. Some newer Minis are titled as older cars and ordering parts is one problem those cars pose. Good luck, and post some photos if you will. Sometimes it's easy to tell approximately what year it is by photos.

Very good info! Thank you. I'm new to the mini scene but I'm very excited. This is a daddy daughter project. We are going to pick up the car next Tuesday. I'll check and see what I have at that point. What am I looking for to determine what subframe I need?

1959 to May 1976 sub frames had two bolts on either side. Wet sub frames had hydrolastic suspension.
most Minis are Dry suspension requiring shock absorbers..
As of June 1976 the MK4 and up sub frames has 1 huge bolt on either side. Also the different floor mounts.
It is important to check the bulkhead to see if the car in question is really what it is advertised as.
Many Minis are "reshelled" and you will see that they are the bigger two bolt frame...
All dry rear subframes are the same regardless of the year.

That's a great price on that engine/sub

Any front sub from a 59-63 and 69-75 saloon should fit
As well as an estate/pup/van front sub from 60 to 75
....... pretty sure they are all the same ??

There red should be a few about

If you post your location, someone near you may offer some up.

here's a rear subframe in Ohio that is a direct fit. The front subframe WILL work in a MKI (I know because I've raced for 8 years in a MKI that has an unmodified MK4 front subframe in it). you need to use the MK4 floorpan mounts and drill new holes for them. Easy peasey.

Here's a front subframe with a motor:

I'm looking at buying a 1960 Morris minor. It needs front and rear subframes. Anyone know of where I might be able to pick some up used?
