I drove my modern MINI today, for the first time in about 3 months! It's been a long time healing from major foot surgery, but I did it! And then I came home to find an email from MINI of Little Rock telling me today is the 3rd anniversary of taking delivery of my F56! Truly a great day. I'm not quite up to driving my Classic, mainly because there's no room for my rolling walker, but that will come...

It's wonderful when you can share your passion with family, isn't it?  My parents have both passed away.  My father was anti-car, so he really didn't understand.  He was a pianist, among other things, and I tried to compare it with the differences in pianos, and maybe he got a glimmer of understanding.  Probably not.  My mother might have, except for her Alzheimer's, and she was pretty aggressive until it was advanced enough that she was bedridden.  Really a sad situation.  One of my happiest days was when I took my mother for a ride in our plane on a nice summer evening.  We flew over the countryside, our house, the rivers, and the St. Louis Arch (this was in the '70s), and we had such a good time, just the two of us. I was probably 22 or 23 at the time, but was an experienced pilot, and I think she "got it."

My husband's 74.  He had a total hip replacement on his right leg this spring.  Three weeks later, we were in our 911 on a Porsche club drive--300 miles in one day, and it was...um...quick driving on some serious twisties.  Wish I had healed that quickly.  Mine was a fusion, though, and they just take time.  Lots of time.

So happy the hear your on the mend, I’m just a kid at 57, but just helped Pops go through double knee replacement at 89, he’d did great, and is moving better than he has in years. This summer he was able to go for a ride in the mini, he loved it.

LOL!  Actually, you're the first.  I've got a lot of lost time to make up, in my business, travels, and of course my driving.

Good news! "Be careful and don't overdo it" How many times a day do you hear that? (This is one more!)

I'm making progress!  The doc cleared me for weight bearing in my big boot, and "walking as much as tolerated."  In four days I've progressed from taking single steps (and yelping in pain with each), to walking reasonably well with the support of my rolling walker.  In 10 days he says I can put on a regular shoe and drive.  Did you hear that?  DRIVE!

Bones heal slowly, and I'm not a spring chicken any more, but I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I'm hoping it's not a train heading toward me...

Yup!  I'm paying for it today (lots of pain), but it was worth it in the moment.  Wind blowing through the windows, 90° day, hills and curves of Arkansas--pure joy!

Got a treat today--a ride in my classic Mini!  Hubby drove, and we went over to Wally World (where I could use their motorized cart), and then the drive through at Micky D's.  It was a really big deal for someone who has been essentially housebound for the past couple of months.  I've gone out in my modern MINI, but the Knee Rover won't fit in the classic.  On the other hand, the classic was big enough for our groceries, and I was able to get in and out without too much trouble, given that I still can't bear weight on my right leg.

Making progress--next stop will be the doctor's office on October 5.  Hope to graduate to weight bearing then, although I probably won't be able to drive for a while more.

Still missing my Mini.  Still have a few weeks before I can drive, but here's a pic of me on my (Knee) Rover.  About 30 seconds after I filled the bird feeder, the Rover and I fell over.  First time, though--those big wheels are normally great.

I think I'm dangerous enough without the motor.  My cast looks the same, except that it's hot pink.  (Love the ability to pick colors--couldn't do that with the old plaster casts.)

So get well soon, do the rehab, and get back to driving Angela.

Thanks--this is a foot fusion.  (I did break my back in '04 in a car wreck, but I've learned to live with it.)

Maybe I would have been better if I'd run marathons--I'm not exactly the size I used to be in my 20's.  Take care of those knees.  My friends around here with artificial knees tell me rehab isn't fun.

Hah!  Actually, I told several people in my British car club that I wanted to put a Union Jack on it and they were all for it.  My Orthopedist was excited by how big the wheels are.  Most knee scooters have dinky little wheels more suited for a child's toy--this one's "all terrain,"  as if I'm going to drive across the fields.  I did a lot of research before I got it--the cheapies ($160 to $175) had complaints about wheels or handlebars breaking off.  This one was more expensive ($300), but I can probably sell it for close to that on Ebay, once I'm done with it.

My classic's got big wheels, too--12 inchers.

Time to customize the new Rover then. To go along with the front basket maybe some leather biker tassels for the handlebars. Chrome the wheels. Maybe even an air horn......

Nope, I didn't sell Angela.  She's in the back garage on a battery tender, about 50' from where I sit.  Late last month I had a major foot surgery to fuse an arthritic joint, and I have a hot pink cast from my toes to my knee--right leg, natch.  I have another 5 weeks or so in the cast, and about 2 months before I can drive anything.  Bummer.

So, here are my new wheels for the time being.  My car says Rover all over it, and this new ride is a Knee Rover.  No, I didn't buy it for the name, but because it's very well made.  I'd rather be driving Angela (or Oliver), though.

Aging isn't for the faint of heart!
