You're right - I misread the book! Portuguese Mokes built by British Leyland/Austin Rover have VINs that begin "TW7", and the Cagiva-built Mokes have a WMI of "TX5"

According to the Moke Club's rather comprehensive book, "Moke, A History", all Portugese Mokes (both British Leyland and Cafiva) had VIN #'s that began with "TX". YMMV!

For the record, whatever it is worth, the VIN for my '73 Australian Mini Window Van has 12 characters: ###A#VM#####

mike.. sound more like a moke vin number from Portugal.. as they had 17 digits.. I have NEVER seen OZ mini or moke with 17 digits.. TW7-XKFP I think is the WMI for the mokes from portugal.. just do google.com search for OZ vin numbers.. later bc ps.. vin number is above the carb on the bulkhead.. along with vin plate on the rad shroud..

I saw a mini the other day with a very long number id tag, but none of the MA KA AA familiar to me.
the number started out 7A80T06070 xxxxxxxxxxxxxx . 17 numbers in all. Only the A and T as letters.
Does anyone have any idea of this being a valid vin #? Sliding window car so MK 1 or 2. I didn't see the rear of the car so I'm not sure.
