What is the largest wheel and tire combo that I can use without modifications ?
I was thinking 225-35-17 with a 7 1/2 inch rim 42 bs. I prefer to fill the wheel well with tire rather than lowering ?
A lot depends on the offset (ET) of the wheels.  Some have installed 225/40 and 225/50 without issues.  Some switched back to 215s due to driveability issues.

Check out this link to do some research.
