I can confirm that. I inquired about my 1991 Spi Cooper. They said they have no records for vehicles after 1986.

Is there a way to post pics direct from my phone? I have pics of the location for the VIN plate by the front AC condenser on my Jap spec.

i have one the exact same here at home and it was first registered in Japan on 1st September 1992. Jim
Do you have a picture for reference, Im not familiar with minis so Im sure about the AC Evap.
Jim means the condenser, the evaporator is under the passenger side dash inside the car.
The condenser is the large black piece that looks like a radiator on the left hand side up front. The vin plate is to the left of it on the inner fender next to the bonnet prop location or if not there it will be in the trunk close to the battery.

They are saying March 1993... where is the other VIN? I see one in type scuttle, but none in the Boot.
Yes in the scuttle. If correct it should have an asterisk at each end of it. Although no foolproof the boot latch should have a date/year code of 4 digits as well as the wiper motor eg: 12 93 would be the 12th week of 1993.
The boot latch date is 02 92

There will also be a tag on the inner right fender giving vehicle info, including paint code.... I believe engine # and VIN are also on the tag

I emailed BMHT and they don't have records for newer minis. Also the price is so good its worth it.. $1300 minis in the US are much higher. CBP website said if you don't have the build date they use the first time it was registered. .. So I can buy it and store it for a year. Then import it
