Thanks so much for the advice and offers Oz-men (DrMini and justminis) sorry it took me so long to get back to you I've been away from things for a few days. Looking at the pictures (nice and clear) I'm not sure exactly what all I'd need and if it would work on my spare trans or not. I've got engine problems so I guess I'll put off spare trans issues for awhile. Thanks very much for the info- at least now I'm aware of the options. Thanks again, Charlie

This shifter pad is alloy, with a rubber+ steel bush in it. Postage cost (letter rate) is Aus$4.70 to USA according to //auspost.com.au/apps/international-letter.html This assumes it isn't too thick to go as a letter in a jiffy bag.. I will check this at post office today and advise.

[edit] The PO checked, found it is too thick to go at the letter rate, so airmail parcel post will be Aus$10.50 to the US.
I'm feeling generous so, if wanted, make it Aus$32 total including post and packing. Paypal is OK.

The `puddin' stirrer' shifter seats on a pad, which replaces the bellcrank which a remote box has.
[edit] and the shifter (aka gear lever) is not the same as the old magic wand one, either..

Thanks alot for the info. If I had one of those plates I wouldn't need to change the rear housing! I am interested smurf- are you missing any MK1 trinkets? I may have something of interest.

Well you learn all sorts of good stuff here Dr. I have never seen that set up before in UK models only the other type with two bolts on the top securing the gearlever with the same precision on gear changes.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

It is a 4 synchro so-called remote box, however as said, here in Oz these boxes (with a std Mini remote shift diff housing) were fitted with a magic wand shifter that was secured under the remote housing by a plate. Were fitted to Mokes 1969-1974 (approx), also vans produced in this period. This shift was often called a `puddin' stirrer' as it was not the most precise in the world.

No idea what model was available in UK/US with this setup. But I have a mid 70s (Oz) Clubman with a magic wand/4synchro box.  Such cars were produced mainly for fleet use and are generally known as "poverty pack" models.  Mokes may also have had something like this.

Cheers, Ian

I'll check tonight- I'm wondering if it may be an AA with a magic wand diff stuck on it.

Austin America and early Cooper and S all had remotes and never used magic wand types. Do you have any numbers on the casing that would help identify it.

I've got a magic wand 4 sync and would like to try and ID it/ figure out what it came out of. It had a 1300GT on it when I got it but I don't think the combination had been run together. It had the Cooper/ AA style motor mount on it. Did AA cars have magic wand or remote? Or could it be an early Cooper or S trans? Any help would be great....
