Here are some postings by MINI owners with the Sprint Booster: I've got a standard R56 Cooper S (no mods) I fitted the Sprint booster in about 5minutes using the instructions from the Mini Mania site. Once fitted I immediately noticed a difference by just blipping the throttle - with the sport button OFF - when i pulled out onto the road the difference in performance was / is massive, the car feels as if it has loads more power even though apparently it hasn't. Throttle response is instant and the car feels more responsive than it did with the sport button on pre sprint Booster. With the sport button ON there is still an added improvement to responsiveness but not the difference there was pre Sprint Booster but it's still improved by a good 10%over standard. With full throttle the car really does pick up but it is pulling away from a stand still or from low revs that the real difference is felt. my first reaction when i heard about the sprint booster was that it seemed to be a complete waste of money. i mean all it does is make the car accelerate like you pressed the accelerator more than you actully did. however the fact that it cost over $$ made me very curious as to why they would ask so much money for such a bs product. i couldn't justify paying over $$ for an item which there weren't too many reviews on for the mini, but i thought for the cost of the used one i found it would be worth checking out. i'm very happy that i did. it FEELS like the car has more power than it actually does, it gives the impression that there's more torque at lower revs. its also more responsive when removing your foot from the accelerator (like when you abruptly remove your foot off the gas above 5k rpm). every so often my sister likes to drive my car after i've installed a mod and see how the car's changed. after installing the SB her reaction was that the car was noticably faster than it had ever been. while increasing hp and building a faster car is often whats focused on when modding a car, it doesn't necessarily mean the car will be more fun to drive or that it will add to overall satisfaction for the driver (especially on a daily driver where your not spending all that much time in upper rpm). my car is more enjoyable now than ever before. i think that installing the SB has added just as much to my satisfaction as installing my pulley.
R50 Cooper with the CVT: "Well I received my Sprint Booster today. Very easy to install. Took all of 5 min for the whole job. Any way took out for a quick road test. the Unit made a immediate and noticeable difference the car from a standing stop now feels more like when the car would normally hit the meat of the power band. I don't find the throttle overly sensitive. It just feels more right. Much like installing a quick turn throttle on one of my race bikes. The response from any of the modes from a standing stop is basically the same. That is all have nearly zero delay on initial throttle response regardless to actual position of the peddle. Nearly all of the "spool up" time that was originally present is removed. You notice the biggest difference or sensation at light to moderate throttle pressure in "D", what would normally be your take off pressure. Once rolling each respective mode will act the same overall as their normal OEM operation in the mid to upper regions. All of the enhancement is off idle to say 3000 rpm (where OEM programmed delays would be present). You do not need to be at or past the detent to feel the effects of the device.
I would say YES there is a performance improvement since the delay in forward acceleration is removed and the car experiences much more urgent forward motion. Not just making noise and waiting. The best way to describe the feeling would be like adding a numerically higher gear to the drive line. But since were not actually changing it were not sacrificing any of the top end performance of the vehicle."
Just bought a Sprint Booster and fitted it to my '03 Cooper 'S'............ AMAZING! Totally transformed the way it drives. Feels like there is about 20% more torque available at low to medium revs. I know it doesn't actually add any more power to the engine but it just feels sooooo much more responsive to any throttle input.
I bought and fitted a Sprint Booster to my already Bluefinned Mini ONE today and OMG what a difference the SB makes! It feels like its got bags more torque low down and is really quick off the mark. Its best when you change up and the revs hardly drop atall! I feel slow speeds, such as backing up or parking lot maneuvers, are easier, because instead of raising revs (or waiting for revs to rise) and slipping the clutch afterwards, clutch release can be initiated a split second before actuating the accelerator pedal. The same holds true for starts on an incline and there are fewer tendencies to bog. There may be a 10 minute learning curve when first installed to avoid chirping the tires or ASC intrusions but even that’s fun to experience, however it’s nothing like learning to drive a stick for the first time. I notice the BPV on my MCS operating more abruptly but I guess it’s because the motor is quicker to enter and fall out of boost; 1st to 2nd gear can be a little jerky some time, but I’m working on that. It takes time to let go of lazy shift habits before gear changes smooth out. These improvements are not solely beneficial at normal street speeds, the sensation of acceleration when you can go WOT through the gears is exhilarating; tight, demanding sections of road reveal throttle preciseness that is greatly appreciated. In my opinion there is greater control, not less control, when rev matching is needed.
I have to say I was a little dubious before I had it installed, but I have to say WOW!! what a difference, it's so much more responsive and you can really feel the torque running through, feels more like a turbo response that an S/c. So is it worth the money, well if you have had the norml mods done first then yes The sprint booster, well my first thoughts it was almost like having another first gear in second Very responsive, but easy to get used to its sometimes savage response. Makes higher gears if the revs are 3500+ nice and torquey with plenty of instant reaction. 5th gear has nice pull at 70+.
It seems to make the pedel very light and quite sharp in its response, but strait away it wasnt too much to get used too, and now having it for over 2 weeks i definately dont want to go back, and have no issues at all with slow speed manovering or control, it dont appear to afffect reverse (noticable anyway) at all, only forward.
Without a doubt a must have mod. The service manager at the dealers was also very impressed and said he would recommend it to those who complained about throttle response. It was also undetecatable to the service computers.
I have had the sprint booster on for a week now and BROOOOM BROOOOM!
Heaps of fun, I was skeptical of how much of an improvement it would make to the throttle response of my car as I have an after market head and custom tune along with a few other bits, but it was well worth the money (considering my wife spends more on shoes each month....).
Also it was the easiest mod I have added only took 30 seconds!
Plug and play! Great Stuff! took 2mins. Start it up and WOW. Throttle response is immediate. Power there straight away instead of having to rev it all the way up. Yes i doesnt give more power, its just there sooner. Couldnt stop laughing and grinning all the time i was driving, so much fun. Even in 5th gear at 70+ when you push the thottle, it just blows you away!
Well worth the money! Oh and i have an 06 R50 Cooper!
I installed one on a buddy's car and all I can say is wow. His car has a 15% and CAI. The difference pulling away from dead stop was much better then stock. The other noticeable difference was how easy it was to access the power band. Every time I read "just move the seat forward" and it does the same thing I laugh. IT'S NOT THE SAME AT ALL.

Easy to fit (used the Minimania instructions) & the results are very surprising. Throttle response is instantaneous now. You have to adapt to the new throttle response, as pulling away in 1st gear ends up in the front wheels spinninig!! It feels quicker when going up the gears & you can blip the throttle when going down the gears. It really has transformed the car. i purchased one of these a couple of weeks ago after trying one belonging to a friend in my jcw s. what a difference amazing throttle response .i agree that you need to adjust your driving style as its easy to spin the front wheels while pulling away ,on occasions i have managed to spin them in 2nd and 3rd in the dry. buy one !!!!
I just installed the Sprint Booster in my R53 and I felt the difference immediately! I hated the delayed response with the throttle and the Mini dealer couldn't fix it even with a flash firmware upgrade. So I was willing to pay for this booster. Anyone that hasn't tried, need not criticize it. Let me tell u that it works and the throttle response is very sensitive now. As soon as u step on the accelerator, it goes! No hesitation!
We installed one in my buddy's car (15% + CAI only) and the difference was amazing. Pulling away from a light was much better and the top end felt the same. I understand how it works and no, moving the seat closer doesn't do the same thing. I tried that before we installed it. When you move the seat closer your foot is now at a jacked up angle and makes the car harder to drive. The SB just made the car funner to drive. It "feels" like the car has more power. I know it doesn't but you sure think it did. I agree that people shouldn't judge until they try it. It does take some getting used to but I would recommend to anyone to give it a try.
I’ve daily driven my MINI equipped with the SB for north of 10k miles. I’ve removed it a few times for reference; it’s a whole lot more fun with it installed. My throttle behavior had previously been altered with an ECU flash, the SB plugged in on top of that quickened throttle response beyond what would be experienced with a stock program, and my MCS has a very healthy torque curve. I recently plugged my SB into another MINI with only a 15% pulley plus no tune and the effect was not near the same.
after having the SB in my car for a few more days i have to say i hope people reading this thread realize just how much fun the SB adds to the mini. with the 30 day back guarantee i'd say give it a shot, it really changes the car and you have nothing to lose. i'm surprised how much i like it
